In an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records, Ravi Kempaiah from Madison, Wisconsin has set out on his journey to pedal 5,000-miles across the country on an electric bike. He will start in his home state and finish up at the headquarters of Stromer in San Diego. Ravi plans on traveling over 125 miles each day in hopes to finish the trek in under one month.
A materials scientist and Ph.D. Student, Ravi wants to set the record straight about e-bikes and exercise with his phenomenal attempt:
“There’s a common misconception that E-bikes don’t provide any health benefits: I’m inspired to change that,” Kempaiah said in a statement prior to leaving.
Ravi started his active interest in electric vehicles, batteries and bicycling twenty years ago. Three years ago, he met Wisconsin’s famous retailer “Crazy” Lenny (Mattioni). Lenny’s stories of riding cross-country on a bike and his passion for e-bikes fueled Ravi’s interest and desire to push boundaries.
